The Kennel That is Saving Lives

This KENNEL is saving lives!!!!

Okay maybe just our lives, but this kennel has saved us from many nights of hell.  Here we are just past Fourth of July and Gunner Kennel is one of the best buys we have EVER bought.

How we heard about it?   We walked into a new pet store in town called Hollywood Feed and saw a floor model of the kennel.  Jason’s first words were-“I bet koda couldn’t break out of that”  We decided to research it a bit before we made such a big purchase.

What research taught us? This kennel is made for travel and built for peace of mind.  The crate has a double wall and has been tested to withstand over 4,000lbs of force, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a 200+ foot cliff drop.  It has a certification from the Center for Pet Safety 5′ Star Crash Test Rating.

WHY WE LOVE it: Koda goes in without hesitation.  She seems to actually enjoy it, and doesn’t whine and bark.  Being made of hard plastic allows it vertically indestructible.  She can’t hurt herself or anyone or anything else!

Got a dog that likes to get out of kennels?
Got a dog that is scared of loud noises?
Need a dog crate?
GET A GUNNER!

A Letter To My Mother

Mother,

It has been a while since my last correspondence. I would like to take the opportunity to review what has happened in that time.

  • You moved us out of small apartment
  • You moved us into small apartment
  • You moved us out of small apartment
  • You moved us into house

I would be remiss if I did not remind you that my initial impression was that said house was a death trap. The world nearly ended that night.

While I have gotten used to the house, I do have some concerns:

  • Orange cat is annoying. You see how she is constantly bothering me, yet you do nothing. I have tried to take control of the situation, but to no avail.
  • The socks. Stop it. Yes, it’s hard to get up, but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna wear those things.
  • Pills. You know I don’t like them, so just stop trying to make me take them. I know when they’re in my food, too, so don’t think that you can fool me.

Ok. I have said what I came here to say, so Happy Mother’s Day. Thanks for the treats you give me (and the treats you give me via Ossian). I also like lying under the desk and in kennel, so that will continue.

Cheers,

Koda

Keep Calm We’re Getting A Puppy

Ossian & Koda are excited that their baby sister is almost ready to come live with us.

Juniper Beans was born on April 3, 2020

Since we’re working from home, we decided that this might be the perfect time to raise a puppy.  We have been looking but hadn’t found the perfect one.  But Juniper came out of nowhere.   just 45 mins away, a small Saint Bernard breeder announced on AKC.org that their dame was expecting.  We immediately reached out.  They put us on the list and told us that they would send pictures when the puppies were 10 days old.

April 13th we received an email that included pictures of 6 female puppies!
They were all so beautiful but “puppy #9” was our pick!
We emailed our pick, and they told us that they would send pictures again at 5 weeks of age.

Here is Juniper at 10 days old.

May 9th, 2020, we finally got the email with pictures!
This beautiful girl is growing up so fast

Here is Juniper at 5 weeks old!

The email told us that we would be able to pick her up May 15th or after.  Because of social distancing we needed to make an appointment, so we set it up for May 15th at 3pm.  We will get to see her and hold her and finally bring her home.

Counting down the days!!!

In 2010 we attended the first #barkworld conference and learned that dogs can have their own #blogs. So the blog- theokdogblog was born.

We began sharing pictures and rating on all the dog parks we visited. We realized we loved planning trips to cities that had lots of dog friendly off leash parks. So began our mission to visit 100 dog parks, we hit that easy…the next goal was 250. And this past year we decided we wanted to try and hit 300 dog parks before the pups were too old to #travel or enjoy.
We are excited to say our 10 year old #Saint and 11 year old #Husky have reached the goal of 300 dog parks. We are not done yet. We still have three days left of our texas road trip and there are more on our list to visit.
I am very proud of what our #family has accomplished. I believe our #pups have enjoy ever #trip we’ve ever taken. I am thankful that we are able to give our pups the #luxury to travel and #explore.

Would have been even higher if we had went and the water hadn’t been drained.  It is cool that they drain and clean the pool twice a week.  *So don’t go Tuesday or Friday if you wanna swim.

NUMBER 300!!!

Pawm Springs Dog Park

Nature of Park: Fenced off leash dog park

Open to Public

Location: 15300 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479

Enrichment: Small swimming pond and a few agility equipment

Areas: Two: Large and small dog

Human Comfort: A few benches and chairs

TheOKdog’s Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Paws

Would have been rated higher but the swimming pond had a large drop off into the water, that made it hard for Koda and Ossian to climb back out of the water.  Would have been nice if it had a slow entrance.

Texas Direct Auto Dog Park

Nature of Park: Fenced off leash dog park

Open to public

Location: 11074 Dorrance Ln, Meadows Place, TX 77477

Enrichment: Small water pond area, and a built in small slide. Lots of bushes to sniff

Would have liked this park a lot more if the small water pond had water in it. Not sure if they just drained it for the winter or what the deal was.
